India, Oct. 31 -- From core strength to flexibility, Pilates does it all. Namrata Purohit shares why this celebrity-loved workout transforms how you move, feel, and balance.
Celebrity Pilates trainer Namrata, co-founder of The Pilates Studio and coach to stars like Janhvi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, and Ananya Panday, explains why Pilates is more than a trend and how 20 minutes a day can transform your body and mind.
Excerpts from the interview:
For those who aren't sure what Pilates really is. How would you explain it in the simplest, most relatable way possible?
Created by Joseph Pilates for soldiers and later adapted by dancers. Pilates builds strength, flexibility, balance, and body awareness - making you strong like a warrior yet graceful like a dancer.
I like to describe it as a practice that strengthens you from the inside out, it targets your core and works every muscle group in a controlled, mindful way. The best thing about Pilates is that it's for everyone, whether you're an athlete, recovering from an injury, or just beginning your fitness journey.
What's the biggest myth about Pilates that you would like to bust once and for all?
The biggest myth is that Pilates is "easy" or "just stretching." In reality, it challenges athletes and beginners alike, focusing on effective movement rather than sweat-and its intensity often surprises many.
If someone has 20 minutes a day, what's the best Pilates routine they can follow?
Focus on core, gluten, and mobility exercises like planks, leg circles, bridges, and spine stretches. Short, consistent daily sessions boost posture, energize you, and improve how your body feels and moves.
Can someone rely only on Pilates for fat loss, or should it ideally be combined with cardio/strength training?
Pilates builds lean muscle, improves posture, and boosts body awareness, aiding fat loss. It's a form of strength and resistance training that pairs well with cardio for a complete routine....
