India, Dec. 13 -- Skincare isn't one-size-fits-all; what works for others may harm your skin, so understanding your own needs matters more than following trends. Dr B.L. Jangid, a dermatologist, hair transplant surgeon and the founder of SkinQure Clinic, New Delhi, shares four skincare mistakes to avoid in 2025, stressing the need for professional guidance to understand your skin. Dr. Jangid warns against blindly following social media skincare trends, which can be fun but harmful for those ignoring potential side effects. The dermatologist explains, "Everyone's skin is unique, with different issues and medical history. Following an influencer's routine, mixing popular actives, or attempting a 10 step system can lead to burns, acne flares, rashes, hyperpigmentation, and long-term damage to the skin barrier." Dr. Jangid stresses knowing your skin type before buying products, warning that blindly following trends or popular actives can backfire. He explains, "Algorithms can't not grasp the complexities of individual skin. Buying high-strength 'miracle' acids or retinoids often fails to meet expectations and can worsen the skin. Many experience irritation and dryness, yet self-prescribing actives remains a common issue." The dermatologist recommends seeking professional guidance, as this ensures your skin receives the ingredients it actually needs. According to the dermatologist, even mild skin irritation - such as rashes, dryness, or itching - should be evaluated by a medical professional, as it may signal an underlying issue that needs attention. Moreover, he also adds, "Self medications should be avoided, especially steroid-based ones. Incorrect or overuse can worsen the issues. In case of any skin or hair issues or concerns, it's better to seek guidance from a certified dermatologist or trichologist for correct treatment." Another skincare mistake Dr Jangid highlights is failing to follow the prescribed treatment or not completing the course recommended by a specialist. He emphasises, "Not adhering to the prescription or not completing the treatment suggested by your skincare expert can lead to relapse or can worsen the conditions."...
