India, Dec. 17 -- Have you ever wondered why, despite eating foods labelled high fibre and low carb, you still feel bloated, constantly hungry, and stuck at the same weight? The issue may not be your discipline or portion sizes, but the type of fibre you're consuming. Many ultra-processed foods marketed as 'healthy' alternatives are padded with fake fibres designed to boost nutrition labels, not your health. In fact, they may be doing more harm than good. Dietician Courtney Kassis recently took to Instagram on December 2 to break down how to spot fake fibres, and which real, fibre-rich foods you should be prioritising instead. "Fake fibre is the stuff that's added to processed foods to make the nutrition label look good. But, it does nothing for fullness, cravings, hormones, or fat loss because your body doesn't treat it like real fibre. Instead, it acts like a quick acting carb with little to no benefit on the body," says Courtney, calling these the "worst offenders". According to Courtney, most of the fibre in modern diets comes from these fake sources, explaining why so many people continue to feel unsatisfied, bloated, and stuck. If you want to identify fake fibre, Courtney says the key is to look beyond the nutrition label and focus on the ingredients list instead. She notes, "If it says anything like chicory root fibre, soluble corn fibre, tapioca fibre, or inulin, these are isolated fibres added for marketing purposes, not health purposes." According to the dietician, real fibre comes from, quite simply, real food. The highest concentrations are found in berries such as raspberries and blackberries, avocados, chia and flax seeds, oats, and vegetables. While aiming for 30 grams of fibre a day is important, Courtney stresses that it only counts when it comes from the right sources and is built into your diet with proper structure. As Courtney explains, "Getting at least 30 grams of fibre daily from real food helps to stabilise blood sugar, keeps you full, supports your hormones, reduces inflammation, and even helps you burn fat."...
