Sri Lanka, Feb. 2 -- World Wetlands Day falls today(2). Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya will preside over the national ceremony at the "Ape Gama" premises in Battaramulla, held under the theme of celebrating cultural heritage linked with wetlands and traditional knowledge.

The Ramsar Convention Secretariat annually designates February 2nd as World Wetlands Day, a date subsequently recognised by the United Nations. This commemorates the international convention for wetland protection established on February 2, 1971, in Ramsar, Iran.
