Sri Lanka, Dec. 22 -- Property and grain stocks sustained damage after a wild elephant broke into the Weerawila warehouse belonging to the Paddy Marketing Board early this morning (22).
Regional Manager for the Southern Zone, Indika Upendra, stated that the animal entered the facility by smashing open an iron door located near the threshing floor area.
The elephant consumed several sacks of paddy stored during the previous Yala season.
However, the manager noted that the structural damage to the iron doors and other property is more severe.
This follows a similar recent occurrence where a wild elephant attacked the Pallemalala warehouse in Hambantota, causing similar damage to its infrastructure.
