Sri Lanka, June 28 -- The White House has reportedly recommended terminating US funding for nearly two dozen programmes that conduct war crimes and accountability work globally, encompassing efforts in countries such as Sri Lanka, Iraq, Syria, and Russia.
According to three US sources and internal government documents reviewed by Reuters, the recommendation was made by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on Wednesday (25).
This is not a final decision, as the State Department retains the option to appeal.
The programmes earmarked for termination also include work in Nepal, Myanmar, Colombia, Belarus, Sudan, South Sudan, Afghanistan, and The Gambia.
