Srilanka, Dec. 26 -- The election to appoint a new Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha has been postponed for the second time amid ongoing controversy, after failing once again to secure the required quorum.
Reports said the scheduled session, due to begin at 10.00 a.m. today (26), could not proceed as only 22 members were present out of the total 45 representatives. As a result, the Southern Province Commissioner of Local Government adjourned the proceedings.
The election was originally slated for November 28 under the supervision of the Local Government Commissioner but was postponed to today due to the absence of a quorum. Despite the rescheduling, the minimum number of members required was not present once again.
