Sri Lanka, Feb. 27 -- The National Water Supply and Drainage Board has warned that water supply disruptions and low pressure may occur in high-altitude areas due to excessive consumption amid the ongoing dry and hot weather.

In a statement, the board said certain areas are experiencing prolonged water shortages, and arrangements have been made to supply water via bowsers under a monitored distribution system.

Despite a significant increase in demand, the board clarified that water production has not decreased and is currently operating at about 10% above normal levels. Measures have also been implemented to prevent saltwater intrusion into river water by constructing temporary salt barriers.
