Sri Lanka, May 6 -- Voting concluded in today's long-awaited local government elections across Sri Lanka, with polls closing at 4:00 PM local time.

Reports indicate a considerably low voter turnout compared to previous elections. Across the nation, 4,877 polling stations opened at 7:00 AM, allowing citizens to elect representatives for 28 municipal councils, 36 urban councils, and 275 Pradeshiya Sabhas.

However, elections were not held for the Kalmunai Municipal Council and the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha.

District-wise, Mannar recorded the highest voter participation at 70%.

In contrast, Colombo saw a 50% turnout, while Gampaha reported 56%. Both Kandy and Kalutara registered a 55% voter turnout.
