Sri Lanka, Feb. 21 -- Ven. Dr. Gallelle Sumanasiri Thero, who was appointed as the Chancellor of Rajarata University on February 10, has resigned from the position.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake appointed Ven. Dr. Gallelle Sumanasiri Thero as Chancellor following the removal of the previous Chancellor, who was also a member of the Maha Sangha. The manner of the removal sparked debate, which intensified after the new appointment.

In his resignation letter to the President's Secretary, the Thero stated that if his appointment had caused distress, disagreement, or disruption to the peace within the Maha Sangha, he valued the unity of the Maha Sangha above holding the position.
