Sri Lanka, April 27 -- Several people have died and others have been injured after a vehicle drove into a large crowd at a street festival in Vancouver on Saturday. Law enforcement described the incident as a "mass casualty incident."
The Vancouver Police Department stated in a social media post that a 30-year-old man from Vancouver was arrested at the scene. They later added that they were "confident that this incident was not an act of terrorism."
Crowds had gathered in the Canadian city to celebrate Lapu Lapu Day. Mayor Ken Sim, in a statement, confirmed that a vehicle "drove into a large crowd of people" at the festival in the South Vancouver neighbourhood at approximately 8:14 p.m.
