Sri Lanka, Sept. 1 -- Farmers say that prices for upcountry vegetables in economic centres are rapidly falling.
They point out that the wholesale price of some vegetable varieties has dropped to a price range of between Rs. 50 and Rs. 70 per kilo.
The price of local potatoes in economic centres also continues to remain low.
According to farmers, even though the government has imposed a tax on imported potatoes, the domestic stocks of these potatoes are causing hardship for local potato farmers.
