Sri Lanka, May 8 -- The United National Party (UNP) is prepared to extend its support to the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and their mayoral candidate for Colombo, according to UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardena.

Wijewardena stated that while the SJB has not yet made a formal request for support, the UNP is ready to provide assistance should such a request be made.

He also indicated that the UNP is open to discussions regarding supporting the opposition in gaining control of other institutions, after the ruling National People's Party failed to get a majority in most of the local government bodies they won.
