Sri Lanka, Sept. 1 -- The University of Wolverhampton has confirmed that it formally invited former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and his spouse to an event in 2023.

A letter from the university's secretary, Christine Fraser, confirmed that the former President, his spouse, and Sri Lanka's High Commissioner in the UK, Saroja Sirisena, were invited to the convocation ceremony for Prof. Maithree Wickremesinghe and a subsequent luncheon.

This confirmation supports the earlier statement of United National Party's Chairman Vajira Abeywardena, who had argued that former President Wickremesinghe's visit to London was constitutional.
