Sri Lanka, Sept. 8 -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, has commended the Sri Lankan government's efforts to stabilise the economy, combat corruption, and strengthen social safety nets. He also acknowledged the government's commitment to economic and social justice.

Turk made these remarks while presenting his report on Sri Lanka at the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council, which began today. He encouraged Sri Lanka to seek international assistance for exhuming mass graves and for other investigations.
