Sri Lanka, April 2 -- United Nations officials have called for immediate international assistance for Myanmar following a devastating earthquake that has left 2,719 dead and is expected to surpass 3,000. With the monsoon season approaching, UN representatives warn that the situation could deteriorate further.

Marcoluigi Corsi, the UN's acting humanitarian and resident coordinator, emphasized the urgent need for drinking water, food, shelter, medicine, and hygiene supplies after significant damage to buildings, roads, and bridges. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stressed the importance of swift action to prevent further suffering.
