Sri Lanka, April 26 -- The United Nations has called on India and Pakistan to exercise "maximum restraint" as the nuclear-armed neighbours implemented reciprocal diplomatic measures following a deadly shooting incident in Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters in New York, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric stated, "We very much appeal to both the governments ... to exercise maximum restraint, and to ensure that the situation and the developments we've seen do not deteriorate any further."
He added, "Any issues between Pakistan and India, we believe, can be and should be resolved peacefully through meaningful mutual engagement."
