Sri Lanka, Aug. 30 -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, is scheduled to present a report on the human rights situation in Sri Lanka at the Human Rights Council session in Geneva, which begins on September 8.

The session will run for a period of one month.

Meanwhile, a former Navy spokesperson, Rear Admiral (Rtd) D.K.P. Dassanayake, said there is an attempt to weaken the country's military system in order to undermine its economy.

He made the remarks at a programme held in Colombo, which was also attended by attorney-at-law Nuwan Bellanthudawa, a Central Committee member of the Patriotic National Front.
