Sri Lanka, May 4 -- British counterterrorism police have arrested several Iranian men in connection with an alleged plot to attack an unspecified target in London, the Metropolitan Police announced today (4).

Five men, aged between 29 and 46, were apprehended in various parts of England on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act.

Police confirmed that four of the men are Iranian citizens, while the nationality of the fifth is still being determined.

In a separate but related investigation, three other Iranian men, aged 39, 44, and 55, were arrested in London on suspicion of a national security offence.

All the suspects are currently in police custody and are being questioned.

No charges have been filed at this time.
