Sri Lanka, April 12 -- Two women were arrested by Customs officers at Katunayake Airport last night for attempting to illegally bring jewellery worth over Rs. 28 million into the country via the green channel.

The suspects, aged 29 and 35, had recently returned to Sri Lanka after working as cleaners in Saudi Arabia. They were found in possession of over 932 grams of jewellery, including necklaces and bracelets, made of more than 22-carat gold-prohibited under the Customs Ordinance.

Customs investigations revealed that the jewellery had been brought for business purposes.
