Sri Lanka, Sept. 12 -- Two individuals who were allegedly hunting deer within the Mihinthale sanctuary and were found in possession of the meat have been released on bail.

Anuradhapura Additional Magistrate Dasuni Hapuarachchi ordered each suspect to be released on two personal bails of Rs 500,000.

The suspects were arrested by the Thirappane Police in Anuradhapura after a tip-off about firearms being transported in a lorry.

A special roadblock was set up in the Kunchikulam area of Thirappane, where the suspects were apprehended. Police found 63 kg of deer meat and a 12-bore shotgun cleverly hidden inside the lorry's chassis.

According to police, the deer meat was being transported to a hotel in the Kurunegala area for sale.
