Sri Lanka, June 21 -- Two police sergeants were arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) today, on charges of soliciting, accepting, and aiding in a bribe of Rs. 25,000.
According to the CIABOC, the arrests were made following a complaint from an individual in the Ampara area.
The sergeants allegedly demanded and accepted the Rs. 25,000 bribe to allow the complainant's sand transportation business to operate without harassment and to refrain from taking legal action concerning their business activities.
The two suspects, who were attached to the Ampara Divisional Criminal Investigation Unit, were apprehended near the clock tower in Ampara town.
