Sri Lanka, Sept. 17 -- Peradeniya Police have arrested two navy officers on suspicion of stealing gold jewellery and property from a house in the Eriyagama area.

The stolen items are valued at 469,000 rupees.

According to the homeowner, the suspects claimed to be Naval Intelligence officers and entered the house on the pretext of searching for drugs before stealing the items.

The homeowner also told the police that the two suspects had previously visited the house with a team from the Kadugannawa Police.

The suspects, aged 31 and 32, are residents of Rattota and Kobbekaduwa.

Peradeniya Police are conducting further investigations.
