Sri Lanka, April 12 -- Two individuals were seriously injured this morning when a train traveling from Avissawella to Colombo Fort collided with a three-wheeler at the Kosgama-Aluthambalam railway crossing.

The collision caused the engine of the three-wheeler to detach and be flung about three meters from the site, resulting in severe damage. The injured - the driver of the three-wheeler and a woman seated in the back - were rushed to the Avissawella District General Hospital for treatment.

Local residents alleged that the railway gate was open at the time of the accident. It was also revealed that the three-wheeler was driven by the younger brother of the railway gatekeeper.
