Sri Lanka, April 18 -- A son of a deputy sheriff shot and killed two people and wounded four others at Florida State University (FSU) on yesterday (17), before being shot by responding officers and taken to a hospital, authorities have reported.

Police believe the gunman, identified as the son of a Leon County sheriff's deputy, acted alone, and the motive remains unknown.

The suspect had access to his mother's handgun, which was previously her service weapon.

She had purchased it from the department, and it was now a personal firearm.

"Unfortunately, her son had access to one of her weapons that was found at the scene," Leon County Sheriff Walter McNeil told a press conference.
