Sri Lanka, July 5 -- Wildlife officials in Mahawa report that the condition of tusker Bhathiya, who is severely ill due to a front right leg injury, has worsened.
The Minister of Environment has instructed officials to take immediate steps to provide urgent treatment for the tusker.
Bhathiya, an approximately 30-year-old tusker living in the Galgamuwa, Abanpola, and Nikaweratiya areas, has been suffering from a leg injury since May 20.
Local villagers noticed his plight and informed the Mahawa Wildlife Office.
Wildlife officers' subsequent inspection revealed that the tusker's severe illness was caused by a gunshot injury to his front right leg.
