Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- An injured wild elephant in the Nochchiyagama-Meegasdigiliya area has received treatment from officials at the Kukulkatuwa Beat Office of Wilpattu National Park.

The Department of Wildlife Conservation stated that officers located the elephant on Monday(8) after receiving a tip-off. A team led by veterinary surgeon Udeshika Madhuvanthi from the Pandulagama Wildlife Veterinary Unit administered the required medical care.

The elephant was found to have a gunshot wound on its leg, believed to be from a locally made firearm.
