Sri Lanka, May 17 -- The Ministry of Transport has criticised the ongoing strike by the Railway Station Masters' Union, stating it is causing unnecessary hardship to the public despite solutions being provided.

In a statement, the Ministry announced that a cabinet memorandum has been submitted to fill vacancies within the Railway Department, and approval has already been granted for 909 positions, including 106 Railway Station Masters.

The Ministry further emphasised that solutions have been provided at the ministerial level for the demands made by trade unions.
