Sri Lanka, Sept. 18 -- The Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Aviation, Bimal Rathnayake, has issued a stern warning to senior officials of the Railway Department, stating they should be prepared to go home if they fail to ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of services.
Speaking at a meeting in the Kalutara District Secretariat, Rathnayake criticised the poor condition of train compartments, highlighting issues such as broken windows, non-functional fans, and unsanitary washrooms.
He also referenced a tragic incident where a seven-year-old boy lost two fingers after a faulty window fell on his hand. The Minister said: "If you can't fix these things within a month, then go home. This is the final warning."
