Sri Lanka, Aug. 28 -- Kuliyapitiya Magistrate, Randika Lakmal Jayalath, has ordered the tipper truck driver involved in a recent fatal collision to be remanded until September 8.

The collision killed three people, including two schoolchildren and the driver of a school van.

The remanded suspect, a 23-year-old resident of Marawila, was identified as Warnakulasuriya Sulanth Nimesh Fernando.

The Kuliyapitiya police told the court that the incident was a result of gross negligence.

While the suspect did not appear to be under the influence of drugs, blood and urine samples were taken for further analysis.

Police also stated that the suspect had been working for 24 continuous hours, and that the van driver had attempted to avoid the crash...
