Sri Lanka, July 31 -- A three-wheeler driver has been arrested by officers at the Pettah Police Station for allegedly drugging passengers to steal their gold items.

According to complaints received so far, the suspect had defrauded two passengers, stealing gold items worth approximately Rs. 2.5 million.

Investigations revealed that the suspect prepared a drink using pills and a special powder, kept it in his three-wheeler, and waited for the opportune moment to give it to his unsuspecting passengers.

Police have successfully recovered the stolen gold items and the mortgage papers obtained from pawning the stolen jewellery from the suspect.
