Sri Lanka, Aug. 8 -- Three people, including a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member of the Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha, have been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Nuwara Eliya Police.

They were arrested for attempting to sell a gemstone without a license.

The suspects, who were staying at a lodging house in the Labu Kele area, initially claimed the gemstone was worth Rs. 500 million.

However, after negotiating with an undercover police officer, they agreed to sell it for Rs. 1 million.

The three suspects, aged between 40 and 50 and residents of the Madawala and Wattegama areas, have been arrested.

Police have also seized the gemstone and are awaiting a report from the National Gem and Jewellery Authority to determine if it i...
