Sri Lanka, Sept. 3 -- An animal rights activist is taking legal action after a Doberman puppy, transported from Jaffna to Colombo in a sealed cardboard box, died from what is suspected to be heat stroke.
This tragic event has brought attention to the cruel and unregulated puppy mill industry in Sri Lanka.
The puppy was purchased from a Jaffna-based breeding kennel that advertised on an online trading site. The breeder placed the puppy in a cardboard box, with a vaccination book taped to the lid, and handed it over to a lorry driver for a journey that would last at least seven to eight hours.
When the box was opened upon arrival in Colombo, the puppy was dead.
