Sri Lanka, Dec. 22 -- A heated situation developed near the Tissa Rajamaha Viharaya in Kankesanthurai during a protest organised by a group including Member of Parliament S. Sridharan. The unrest began when the group acted in violation of a court order obtained by the police to prevent the demonstration.

Five individuals, including a local council member, were taken into custody on charges of unlawful assembly, undue obstruction, and criminal force. Following their production before the court, all suspects were released on bail.
