Sri Lanka, Aug. 3 -- The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has announced that a new counter to issue temporary driving licences for foreign tourists will open today (3) at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
Until now, foreign visitors had to travel to the DMT office in Werahera to obtain a licence.
The new counter has been opened at the airport for the convenience of tourists, many of whom rent vehicles from the airport or nearby areas for self-guided travel.
The new service will only issue licences for light vehicles and motorcycles.
Tourists will not be issued licences for heavy vehicles or three-wheelers.
