Sri Lanka, July 6 -- The 17-year-old suspect arrested in connection with the murder of a 26-year-old woman in the Devipahala area of Kuruwita has confessed to the police.

Police stated that the suspect admitted to having a strong obsession with the victim for a long time and confessed to killing her because she continuously rejected his advances.

The victim, 26-year-old Shanika Madushani, a resident of Devipahala, Kuruwita, was murdered on July 2 while returning home from work. Her body was found in a bushy area along her route, with her throat slit, according to the police. The victim's gold chain, mobile phone, and handbag were also stolen.

The 17-year-old suspect has been placed in a juvenile detention centre by court order.
