Srilanka, Nov. 13 -- The Ceylon teachers service union proposed to the Ministry of Education not to extend the school day until 2:00 PM.

This proposal came during a discussion held today between the union and officials, including the Secretary to the Ministry of Education. Yaalwela Pannasekara Thera, President of the All Ceylon United Teachers' Union, also commented on the matter.

He stated that authorities should withdraw the proposal to extend school hours, taking into consideration the proposals of the government teachers' trade union as well.

According to the new education reforms, the school session duration is scheduled to be extended until 2:00 PM. The plan is for schools to operate from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM, covering seven period...
