Sri Lanka, July 2 -- A T-56 assault rifle was discovered today in the Mapakada Lake in Mahiyanganaya on July 1.
The weapon was found tangled in a fishing net by a fisherman who had gone to work earlier that morning.
Upon receiving information, Mahiyanganaya Police officers responded to the scene and took the firearm into their custody.
Police stated that details regarding who placed the weapon in the lake are yet to be uncovered.
However, authorities suspect the firearm may have been disposed of in the lake after being used in a criminal act.
Mahiyanganaya Police are conducting further investigations.
