Sri Lanka, May 18 -- The Nursing, paramedical and supplementary Joint Council for Paramedic Professionals (JCPP) has announced a symbolic strike to be held on May 22, in protest over unresolved issues including graduate recruitment, promotions, and weekend leave allowances.

JCPP Chairman Ravi Kumudesh stated that the strike will be a symbolic expression of the long-standing grievances in the paramedical sector.

Meanwhile, the Inter-University Students' Federation (IUSF) condemned what it described as government suppression of student protests.

On the afternoon of May 16, the IUSF staged a protest near the Ministry of Health, opposing the recruitment of graduates from private universities into allied health and medical professions.
