Sri Lanka, July 9 -- The Colombo Magistrate's Court has ordered the release on bail of suspended Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya.

He was previously remanded on suspicion of aiding and abetting the release of a prisoner from Anuradhapura Prison under the guise of a presidential pardon.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga issued the order after considering submissions from both Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers and the defence lawyers.

The Magistrate ordered the suspect's release on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and two personal bails of Rs. 2 million each.

Furthermore, the Magistrate prohibited Upuldeniya from entering any prisons in the country.
