Sri Lanka, Jan. 23 -- Two men accused of a fatal assault with wooden poles were acquitted by the Galle High Court after the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. High Court Judge Purnima Paranagama delivered the verdict, clearing Chandra Padmakumara Madanayake and Palihapitiya Gamage Nihal Duminda of all charges.
The case involved the death of Dulaksha Deroshan Liyanarachchi on April 26, 2007. According to the prosecution, the victim was returning from a New Year's party in a three-wheeler with two others when the suspects allegedly stopped the vehicle in the Kasideniya area of Poddala around 10:00 PM.
