Sri Lanka, Aug. 4 -- Divulapitiya Police have arrested a man who was allegedly transporting 1,800 packets of pesticides produced without the approval of the Registrar of Pesticides.
Acting on a tip-off received by the Negombo Divisional Intelligence Unit, police apprehended the suspect on the Divulapitiya-Hapuwalana road. The investigation revealed that the suspect is a 48-year-old air force deserter from the Kandana area.
The police reported that the pesticide packets were labelled with claims to "prevent damage to crops from mealybugs and control leaf curl," but the registration numbers provided on the packets were fake.
