Sri Lanka, Dec. 24 -- The duties of a police constable attached to the Suriyakanda Police Station face immediate suspension following his arrest and subsequent release on bail.
Authorities identified the officer as Hettiarchchige Susantha WeerasenaHettiarchchi, who became the subject of a disciplinary inquiry after three specific charges led to his court appearance.
The constable previously alleged that NPP Parliamentarian Shantha Padma Kumara assaulted him.
According to the officer's claims, the MP blocked his path with a vehicle and attacked him while he returned from a shop, purportedly in retaliation for a raid on a cannabis plantation.
