Sri Lanka, June 16 -- The Supreme Court has decided to hear a Fundamental Rights petition challenging the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Sri Lanka and India on August 4.

When the case was taken up today (16), representatives for the Attorney General requested a two-week extension to file their objections.

They also asked the court to direct the Cabinet to set a date for submitting the petition. The court granted these requests and allowed the respondents time to file their objections.

The petition was filed by a group led by Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara, naming the Attorney General, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, and the Cabinet as respondents.
