Sri Lanka, July 23 -- The Supreme Court today (23) decided to hear a Fundamental Rights Petition filed by former Chief Minister and Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) leader Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as "Pillayan."
The petition challenges his arrest and detention, claiming it was illegal.
The court will hear the case under several articles of the constitution, including those concerning unequal treatment and unlawful arrest.
Appearing on behalf of the petitioner were President's Counsel Manohara De Silva and Attorney Udaya Gammanpila.
