Sri Lanka, March 6 -- The Supreme Court has scheduled the Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by former Minister Rajitha Senaratne for consideration on September 30, 2025. The petition seeks a recount of preferential votes obtained by New Democratic Front (NDF) candidates in the Kalutara District during the 2024 General Election.

A three-member bench comprising Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Janaka de Silva, and Sampath B. Abeykoon made the decision today (06). The Election Commission, its Chairman, the Kalutara District Returning Officer, MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena, and the Attorney General have been named as respondents.
