Sri Lanka, Feb. 12 -- The Supreme Court has ordered that notices be issued to several parties, including former Presidents Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe, current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and the Attorney General, regarding a Fundamental Rights petition.
The order follows a petition requesting a ruling that programs and circulars implemented by past and present governments are illegal. These government measures facilitate the alteration of gender identity through surgery for men and women based on personal preference rather than biological grounds.
Shantha Jayatilake, a retired disabled veteran of the Air Force, filed the petition.
