Sri Lanka, Feb. 13 -- The Supreme Court today (13) granted permission to hear a fundamental rights petition filed by Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP and lawyer Sujeewa Senasinghe, who claims that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has violated his fundamental rights through illegal investigations against him.
A three-judge bench issued the order after lengthy consideration. The Acting Inspector General of Police, the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the CID, its Director, the Attorney General, and 18 others have been named as respondents. The court has given the respondents six weeks to file any objections before the petition is heard on September 10.
