Sri Lanka, March 28 -- A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar, with its epicenter located 16 km northwest of Sagaing at a depth of 10 km, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The tremor caused an unfinished high-rise building to collapse in Bangkok, leaving 43 construction workers missing. Strong tremors were also felt in Myanmar's capital, Naypyidaw, where reports indicate buckled roads, and in parts of Thailand and southwestern China.

Myanmar, which has faced political instability since a military coup in 2021, presents challenges in obtaining detailed information on the situation. Authorities are continuing efforts to assess the damage and locate those affected.
