Sri Lanka, March 5 -- Steven Smith has announced his immediate retirement from ODI cricket following Australia's semi-final loss to India at the Champions Trophy. However, he will continue to play Tests and T20Is.

Smith, 35, informed his teammates after the match that it was his final ODI appearance, ruling him out of Australia's 2027 World Cup plans despite captaining the team in Pat Cummins' absence.

"It has been a great ride, and I have loved every minute of it," Smith said. "Winning two World Cups was a highlight, along with the many fantastic teammates who shared the journey. Now is a great opportunity to prepare for the 2027 World Cup, so it feels like the right time to step aside."
